Newcastle United have in recent weeks pushed relentlessly behind the scenes for Felix Nmecha, identifying the Borussia Dortmund midfielder as one of the pillars of their midfield rebuild, with club representatives understood to have encouraged Newcastle’s own Germany internationals, Nick Woltemade and Malik Thiaw, to use the national team camp as an opportunity to help persuade Nmecha that his future belongs on Tyneside. However, in the last 48 hours the landscape shifted the moment the heartbeat of Anfield entered the conversation. Senior representatives of Liverpool Football Club, English football’s most decorated and mythical institution, including Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, have also made contact with Nmecha’s camp to express their admiration for the player and to make clear that he is highly appreciated internally. Liverpool currently view Borussia Dortmund’s valuation, believed to be around £116 million, as far beyond what they would be prepared to pay this summer; however, the possibility of revisiting the situation should his £70 million release clause become active in 2027 has not gone unnoticed by the player’s camp. For that reason, Nmecha’s representatives are understood to have informed Newcastle United that the player is currently not interested in making the move despite the club’s relentless pursuit. The possibility of Anfield remaining on the horizon leaves little appetite to close doors prematurely, particularly when one of football’s greatest institutions may yet decide that the timing is right. Sometimes one club can offer everything money can buy, yet still fall short when another carries the weight of history, the blood of Anfield and the promise of wearing one of football’s most iconic shirts.

Borussia Dortmund’s internal valuation of Felix Nmecha is understood to be heavily influenced by the recent market benchmark set by Elliot Anderson, with a potential asking price in the region of £110 million being discussed, particularly if the interested party comes from the Premier League. However, it is worth noting that no concrete club has contacted either the player’s camp or Borussia Dortmund directly so far, but internally there is a growing expectation that interest will intensify after the World Cup, given the tournament’s importance, the increased visibility it provides, and the club’s conviction that Nmecha is capable of delivering a superb campaign on football’s biggest stage.

According to a report from BILD (via iMiaSanMia), Liverpool are one of a number of clubs who have inquired about Felix Nmecha – alongside the likes of both Manchester clubs and Bayern Munich: “Max Eberl has recently contacted Felix Nmecha’s representatives to express Bayern’s interest. Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool have all inquired about Nmecha.” “Real Madrid also has him on their radar. Nmecha has an €80m release clause in his contract, valid in 2027. A year later, in 2028, it would be around €70m.” “For this summer, the price is negotiable. Dortmund don’t want to sell, but would consider offers in excess of €100m. Bayern are actually unlikely to sign a high caliber midfielder this summer, but Nmecha remains on their list.”
