Newcastle United have in recent weeks pushed relentlessly behind the scenes for Felix Nmecha, identifying the Borussia Dortmund midfielder as one of the pillars of their midfield rebuild, with club representatives understood to have encouraged Newcastle’s own Germany internationals, Nick Woltemade and Malik Thiaw, to use the national team camp as an opportunity to help persuade Nmecha that his future belongs on Tyneside. However, in the last 48 hours the landscape shifted the moment the heartbeat of Anfield entered the conversation. Senior representatives of Liverpool Football Club, English football’s most decorated and mythical institution, including Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, have also made contact with Nmecha’s camp to express their admiration for the player and to make clear that he is highly appreciated internally.
