Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea face Brentford tomorrow in the Premier League, and it’s worth mentioning that the former Leverkusen manager has remained in contact with Florian Wirtz, with the relationship between the pair continuing beyond their time together in Germany. For now, nothing more than that, but certainly a relationship worth keeping in mind. #AD (18+)

Florian Wirtz’s Germany faces the United States tomorrow night as preparations for the World Cup continue, and I can now reveal that newly appointed Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has already personally reached out to the superstar, expressing his delight at the prospect of working together in the very near future, wishing him success for the battles that await on football’s greatest stage, and making it clear that he views Florian as one of the central cornerstones of the era he intends to build at Anfield. For Iraola, the vision extends far beyond a single season, because when the dust of the World Cup settles and a new campaign begins, the objective will be to return Liverpool to the summit of English and European football, to pursue Premier League and Champions League glory beneath Anfield’s famous lights, and to carve their names into the history of a club built upon triumph, sacrifice and unforgettable nights, a club whose spirit continues to echo through the streets of Liverpool and along the River Mersey, where generations of legends have helped shape one of football’s most revered institutions. #AD (18+)

There were several phone calls in recent hours between Florian Wirtz, his father and agent Hans-Joachim Wirtz, and his many siblings. Those around him describe a player who can barely contain his anticipation ahead of Germany’s World Cup opener against Curaçao tonight. He arrives at the tournament at the absolute peak of his powers, carrying a quiet certainty that nights like these, moments like these, are what all the years of sacrifice, discipline, and relentless dedication were leading towards. Florian is not travelling to this World Cup merely to fulfil a childhood dream, he is travelling there believing it could be the first chapter in a journey that one day sees his name carved onto football’s Mount Rushmore. The ambition is as immense as the talent itself, to lead Germany to World Cup glory, to place himself firmly in the race for the Ballon d’Or, to become the defining player of his generation, and to walk a path reserved only for those whose names outlive their era and become part of the game’s eternal history. Those closest to him have never doubted his ability, they have witnessed the sacrifices, the obsession, and the relentless pursuit of excellence long before the world fully understood what was emerging. In their eyes, this is not simply the beginning of a tournament, but the opening chapter of a story that Florian believes can end with football’s greatest prizes, both collective and individual, and ultimately place his name among the giants whose legacies are measured not in years, but in generations.

🔗 FYI: Florian Wirtz has no desire to return to Germany and, in particular, no interest in joining self-proclaimed giants Bayern Munich. The criticism has hurt, the messages have been difficult to ignore, but leaving Liverpool has never crossed his mind. #LFC was the move he dreamed of long before he ever wore the shirt and, even when the love he imagined has sometimes felt painfully far away, he remains determined to earn it. Florian wants to stay, fight through the difficult nights and make Anfield, football’s most mystical stage, the place where the dream he carried with him to Liverpool finally becomes everything he always believed it could be.
