Julian Nagelsmann no longer has any realistic chance of remaining Germany head coach, with the sporting decision effectively made and only the financial terms of his departure still to be negotiated. Inside the German Football Federation, there is said to be growing frustration and disappointment that he has shown no intention of following Ronald Koeman’s example by stepping aside voluntarily after the Netherlands’ elimination. Instead, with two years remaining on a contract worth around €7 million per season, Nagelsmann is expected to seek the full financial settlement he is entitled to, meaning the DFB could once again be forced into paying a severance package worth well into the seven figures. For many within the federation, the hope had been that accountability would outweigh financial considerations and allow both parties to part ways without another costly payoff, but those expectations now appear to have faded, leaving an already painful sporting failure likely to end with an equally expensive financial separation.
