Fabrizio Romano: "The decision of Besiktas to deny the story about Salah is because Besiktas, as of today, have not closed the deal for Salah, and so until the deal is closed, is signed, is completed, they have to be careful.” “It’s absolutely normal. Besiktas are in negotiations for Salah, for sure.” “There is a conversation. They sent a proposal to Salah.” “But before saying Salah’s done deal, here we go, close the travel, medical, whatever, we have to wait for an official agreement. And as of tonight, we still have to wait on the next steps before saying that Salah is a new Besiktas player.” “So let’s be careful, let’s wait, let’s not be in a rush.” “And at the right moment I will update you on Salah, because he also has proposals on the table from MLS, proposals from Saudi, and Besiktas want to be careful until they have a full agreement done with the player.”

Borussia Dortmund made contact with Mohammad Salah’s camp in recent days after identifying the free agent as one of the biggest market opportunities of the summer, a chance the club simply felt they could not afford to ignore despite the obvious financial obstacles. Initial discussions were held to assess whether a deal could realistically be explored, with Salah understood to have been genuinely interested in the project and open to Dortmund’s vision, but it quickly became apparent that the overall financial package, including salary, signing-on fee and performance-related bonuses, lay well beyond the club’s current financial framework and wage structure. Despite Salah’s openness to the idea and positive early discussions between the parties, financial reality ultimately proved impossible to overcome, with the overall package moving well beyond Dortmund’s financial reach and leaving the club with the strong internal belief that the next chapter of his career will be written in the Saudi Pro League.

PLAY ONMaybe people now understand why Borussia Dortmund suddenly intensified their search for a new right winger following Karim Adeyemi’s agreement with Barcelona. As always, time has proven to be the greatest ally. The club’s true dream target for that position was Mohammad Salah, but despite genuine interest in the project, the financial reality ultimately made the move impossible.
